Britannia School Support Year of Reading 2008

The National Year of Reading (NYR) is a year-long celebration of reading, in all its forms. It aims to help build a passion for reading – in children, families and adult learners alike.

Britannia School, as a British School overseas, is keen to promote reading amongst all members of the expatriate community it serves.  Alongside the campaign in the UK, the school is aiming to build the same passion for reading in our local community, starting by creating a love for reading in school, through sharing books and magazines, stories and tales in all shapes and forms.

The School wants to take this into the community supporting the monthly Year of Reading themes, starting in April with the “Read All About It” Campaign, getting you to read everything and anything, anywhere and everywhere! If you have read a special book which you want to share, let the School know, and we’ll include it on our website, in a Recommended Reads section.

The School is launching its very own Creative Writing Competition, to be judged by Tenerife’s own Award winning travel writer and top author, Joe Cawley.  In three categories, this competition is aimed at getting our local community to write stories, the best of which  can be published  local papers, and maybe even compiled into an anthology of tales from Tenerife, showcasing the creativity of writers locally. Who knows…someone might even read your story, and want to publish it!  Entry is free, prizes to be won, so get those creative juices flowing!

Watch the video below to see the many celebrities who are supporting the campaign.
